TFCC Injuries

Ulnar sided wrist pain?

Do you have pain on the outside of your wrist? Unable to play your favorite sport?
Quite common in athletes and manual workers, Dr. Thibaudeau sees a wide range of patients with this type of pain.
TFCC injuries (triangular fibrocartilagionous complex) or ECU tendinitis are a common cause of the pain.
Both structures are important stabilizers of the DRUJ (distal radioulnar joint). Injuries to these structures can cause pain or a sensation of instability or decreased grip strength.

How is TFCC injury diagnosed?

Diagnosis starts with a good history and physical examination by a hand surgeon.
Imaging can help clarify the diagnosis:
  • X-ray
  • Ultrasound
  • CT scan
  • MRI

How can we treat TFCC related injuries?

Depending on the cause of your ulnar sided wrist pain, a combination of the following can be prescribed:
  • Hand therapy
  • Orthoses and taping (ex: wrist widget)
  • Cortisone injection (offered on the same day of your appointment if indicated)
  • Surgeries
Dr. Thibaudeau offers advanced arthroscopic techniques to accurately diagnose and treat ulnar sided wrist pain (TFCC repair).
